DRAMA FAQS

DRAMA PLUS

What ages is this for? 10-14 yrs

My student will be 10 by the time of the show, can they participate? Yes. If your student is turning 10 by the time of the show, and you believe they are mature enough to be patient, follow instructions, etc. You are welcome to sign up.

My student is 14, can they do both Drama Plus and Troubadours Players? Yes. We allow students this age to carry over, being the “olders” in one group and the “youngers” in the other. There is growth in both settings. You can decide on which one (or both) would be the best fit. Or feel free to reach out to a director.

What is the time commitment? Putting on a show is a big time commitment. We ask students to show up weekly, memorize their lines, and be involved. Parents are asked to commit to help with an element - strike, concessions, ushers, etc. It takes many hands to put on a production.

Can my student miss rehearsal? Yes. Because we only meet ONE DAY A WEEK, we ask students not to miss more than twice, and not to miss the last two weeks of rehearsals.

Is this a class? Although there is no curriculum, many parents do put this on a transcript.

Is this a play or a musical? Good question. Our fall shows are traditionally plays, with musical elements!! And our spring productions are musicals.

Are there auditions? We typically spend a week discussing the play, and what auditions look like. There will be auditions to determine roles, but you don’t have to audition to register. In the spring, there are auditions for singing, and could happen before the semester begins.

Do I have to register for other classes in order to participate in Drama Plus? No. Students can enroll in Drama Plus without any prerequisite or additional class requirements.

What is your primary method of communication? We communicate mainly by email. Parents are expected to pay close attention to their email, please give us your student’s email or additional emails if necessary. Weekly emails will be going out.

Are there auditions? There are auditions before the semester begins. We believe this is an important process. Everyone must audition. Sometimes everyone gets in! It just depends on the show! We usually put out an audition packet, be sure to read it thoroughly. Often, students will register for the class when registration opens. Later, they will audition and be offered a role before accepting the role and paying for the semester.

Do I have to participate in anything, in order to participate in Troubadours Players? Students can enroll in Troubadours Players IN FALL, without any prerequisite or additional class requirements. HOWEVER, IN ORDER TO AUDITION FOR THE SPRING MUSICAL, STUDENTS MUST BE ENROLLED IN A FALL CHOIR (Choristers, Concert Choir, Jr. Show Choir, Show Choir, or Trouveres) TO PARTICIPATE.

Can my student participate in a morning Troubadours class (ie Strings Class) and still enroll in HS Drama? Due to our limited time to prepare for a production, students are not able to be in other morning classes. Students can participate in Choristers as well as other afternoon classes.

What is your primary method of communication? We communicate mainly by email. In HS we expect students to keep on top of the communication. Weekly emails will be going out.
